THE POST-HARVEST


Before entering the post-harvest room, the nets with the freshly cut roses are inspected to check that the cutting points are as needed and homogeneous. After this control, the flowers enter the post-harvest room.

Ecuanros S.A. has two of the most beautiful and better-equipped post-harvest room in the country. The rooms are 700 m2 and are equipped with a 30-meter long central conveyor belt. We have 2 stem-cutters to ensure the stem bases are level and also 2 leaf-cutters.

Before starting the classification process, all our roses get a first hydration in the pre-cooling rooms where the temperature is between 3 and 5 degrees Celsius. They stay there for a minimum of 2 hours. This helps the flowers to get a good initial hydration in post-harvest.


The flowers are then classified on the different classification tables according to their variety, stem size, cutting point, bud size, color and phytosanitary condition. At this point we decide if the flowers can be exported according to our parameters and they are placed in the classification trees or set aside to be transformed into compost.

After getting through our strict quality control, the flowers fit for export are bunched by 10, 12, 20 or 25 stems, depending on the needs of our customers. Each bunch has a bar-coded label with all information regarding control, variety, size, and stems number in the bunch

We produce roses from 40 to 150 cm with intermediate sizes every 10 cm. The size availability of the flowers depends on the characteristics of the variety and on the way our technicians collect the flowers. You can see the different sizes available in our varieties section.

All the flowers are bunched with micro-corrugated cardboard with the company logo and they have a paper and cardboard division between each row to protect the roses. This is a standard packing solution, but if the customer requires other specifications, we can adapt to his needs.

The bunches are put on the conveyor belt and checked again at the end of it by our quality control team, especially trained for this task. Any bunch that doesn't fulfill our standards is set aside.

Our process meets all the classification and bunching standards, which allow us to guaranty that our customers will always receive a homogeneous product that will respond to their expectations.

All this process can be seen from the offices, which are located in the post-harvest room, on top of the coolers. This is a great advantage for our customers because it allows the company management to check virtually all the shipments, ensuring more quality control.
